Steve Eckberg Steps into CHRO Role at CalOptima

Steve Eckberg has joined CalOptima as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), where he will lead HR functions for Orange County’s largest health insurer. CalOptima Health, a county-organized health system in Orange County, California, provides vital health insurance programs for low-income children, adults, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Eckberg brings extensive HR expertise from his recent role as Interim Vice President of Human Resources at Western Dental & Orthodontics, where he led key areas such as employee relations, engagement, and total rewards. His leadership significantly strengthened workplace culture and streamlined HR operations across multiple locations.

Before joining CalOptima, Eckberg held prominent HR roles within the healthcare sector. At Providence for St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, he served as Chief Human Resources Officer, where he managed HR strategy for the Southern California Region. His contributions included fostering talent acquisition and organizational development within Providence St. Joseph Health System.

Previously, Eckberg also served as Executive Director of Human Resources at UCI Health, where he provided HR leadership tailored to support the medical center's operational goals. His tenure at Azusa Pacific University as Vice President of Human Resources further solidified his expertise in HR strategy, executive compensation, and employee engagement across a diverse range of sectors.
