Alastair Barbour, currently the Senior Independent Director of Phoenix Group, will serve as the interim Chairman from September 1, 2022. The Board believes that Barbour's decades-long expertise and commitment to Phoenix will guarantee an unwavering approach to Board issues.
Phoenix Group announced in July 2021 that its Chairman Nicholas Lyons had been nominated to be Lord Mayor for the City of London beginning in November 2022 for a one-year term. Lyons will be on sabbatical from Phoenix Group beginning September 1, 2022. He will then return to his past chairman of the Board of Directors and the Nomination Committee in November 2023, subject to regulatory approval, the Phoenix Group announced.
Karen Green will succeed Alastair Barbour as Senior Independent Director post the conclusion of the Phoenix Group's 2022 Annual General Meeting on May 5, 2022, subject to approval by the regulatory authorities. Green is Chairman of the Board Sustainability Committee and the Designated Non-Executive Director responsible for Workforce Engagement.
The Board has also announced the appointment of Katie Murray as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective from April 1, 2022. Katie has been the NatWest Group's Group Chief Financial Officer since January of 2019, after joining the company as the Director of Finance in November 2015. In addition, NatWest Group plc has appointed Katie as the director. Katie has more than thirty years of experience working in accounting and finance. She previously served as the Group Finance Director at Old Mutual Emerging Markets, Johannesburg, between 2011 and 2015.
