Five anchorwomen have sued NY1, claiming the cable channel is discriminating against them on the basis of their age and sex. In 2016, the channel laid off approximately 40 longtime employees over the age of 40. The work environment has become increasingly hostile and opportunities for younger journalists are coming at the expense of older talent, the complaint filed by employees said.

A KPMG survey says women in senior profiles feel discriminated and more critically judged for their behavior at work. Respondents were told that they were “too bossy, too direct or insufficiently collaborative”. More than half of these senior employees said that they altered their behavior to meet their colleagues’ expectations from them.

A new rule from the Trump administration will allow workers to shop for healthcare coverage from the funds provided by employers. This change will come into effect from next year. On Monday, employees of BuzzFeed News staged a walkout to demand recognition of their union. This came after months of a failed negotiation with management, Huffington Post reported.
