    During the past 2 years, Ernst & Young’s Parental Leave Program has resulted in doubling the percentage of men taking full leave. New dads also took longer leave in general in 2018. Parental leaves intend to equalize responsibility among men and women and improve female representation in the leadership positions.

    HYATT TO PAY $100K IN EEOC DISCRIMINATION SETTLEMENT

    In a recent lawsuit, Hyatt Corporation has agreed to pay $85,000 and provide six weeks of paid leave worth about $15,000 to an aggrieved employee. The employee claimed to have been discriminated on account of a back impairment. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) explained that it’s sometimes sensible to offer low-cost accommodation such as a policy that allows for a chair and orange juice for a diabetic sales assistant.

Facebook has been under the weather because of a number of investigations over privacy on the social network. Earlier, few politicians had called for the company’s division. Investor proposals aimed to limit Zuckerberg’s power over the company he co-founded. The company urged to vote down these proposals.

This is hampering the production of the popular breakfast spread for millions of Europeans. Reportedly, key ingredients are running low and the owners have cautioned to heavily fine the strikers. The striking workers are calling for a 4.5% pay raise, along with a €900 bonus.

    Sephora, a multinational chain of personal care and beauty, is going to shut all its US stores after a racial incident involving the R&B artist, SZA. The artist had said that she had been racially profiled while shopping at a Sephora store in California. This prompts Sephora to hold "inclusion workshops" on the morning on 5 June at its US stores as well as its distribution centers and corporate offices.

    Maine will be providing 1 hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours of paid leave per year which can be used after 120 days of employment. With this decision, it becomes the first state to mandate paid leave for any reason. This new policy will make employers reevaluate their current leave policies to ensure compliance with the new law.

    The Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) found that forty percent of 55-and-older people are actively looking for work. Older workers are being considered outdated or incapable of learning new skills. BLS found five occupations where opportunities might come include real estate appraisers and assessors with 39% older workers and 14% growth projected; technical writers (45%, 11%); tax preparers (38%, 11%); property, real estate and community association managers (39%, 10%) and construction and building inspectors (39%, 10%).

    Japanese bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, has offered 500 directors and managing directors in London voluntary redundancy. A spokeswoman for the bank confirmed the managers were informed yesterday. Further, those who do not take voluntary redundancy will have to wait till summer to discover whether they will remain at the bank. Managers at the bank’s Japan, Paris, and North America location are not affected.

    Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) has paid $25 million to eliminate its employees’ student debt, the company told in an email sent to HR Dive. As part of its pay-down program it created in 2016, it offers $1,200 per year to its associates and senior associates. U.S student debt totals near $1.4 trillion and accrues at a rate of $2,858 a second, Debt.org reports.

    WHO, in its 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), officially listed burnout as an “occupational phenomenon”. It described burnout as “a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.” The health organization classified burnout under “problems associated with employment or unemployment”. A 2018 university poll reported more than half of the employees experienced burnout.

    Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer of Tesla and SpaceX, wrote an email to Tesla employees urging them to hit a record delivery in the second quarter.     California state assembly on Wednesday passed legislation that would recognize hundreds of thousands of contractors as employees. The bill will now move to the Senate. As per the bill, to be exempt from labor requirements, an employer needs to prove that workers have complete control over how services are provided and the service is not related to the employer’s main business.

Among 2,150 U.S. hourly workers, 77 percent said work-life balance was needed to feel satisfied on the job. Being well-paid, having a positive boss/employee relationship, convenient work location, and performing enjoyable tasks were other job satisfaction drivers.
